Box Elder Burl:  Box elder is the most widely distributed maple in the Americas. In North America, it ranges from the east to the west coasts and then from northern Canada, south to Guatemala.  Box Elders produce burls, which are a tree growth in which the grain has grown in a deformed manner.  These growths produce a figure that is rare and striking, particularly sought after in turned and decorative objects.
